Standards Compliant
- This site is written in validated XHTML 1.0 and uses open standards as defined by World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
- Channel feeds from our RSS Service are written in validated RSS 0.92, a XML-based technology.
- The look and feel of the site is written in validated CSS2. The aim is to produce a non-platform / non-browser specific site with reduced download times. A separate print.css file ensures all pages are printer-friendly.
- This site conforms to the W3C's "Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0", available at W3C's website. It has reached at least conformance level "Double-A".
Technologies
Development
- The platforms used in the development of the site were Debian GNU/Linux running the Gnome desktop environment and Mac OS X v10.3 Panther.
- The scripts, XHTML and CSS were created using a combination of Quanta Plus and Vim.
- Graphics were designed using PhotoShop 7.0 and The Gimp.
Hosting
- This site is hosted on a FreeBSD server running Apache 2.
- All dynamic content and forms processing is brought to you by PHP.
- The database used is MySQL.
- The search engine used is mnoGoSearch.
- Webmail is provided by SquirrelMail.
Testing
- This site has been optimised for browsers which use the Gecko engine (e.g. Mozilla Firefox). Some features may not be available in other browsers.
- Each page has been tested using GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OSX, and Windows platforms.
- All common browsers have been used in testing including Mozilla 1.6, Firefox 0.8, Safari 1.0.1, Opera 7 & 6, Konqueror 3.1.5, Epiphany 1.0.7, Lynx and IE6.
- This site has been tested at all common screen resolutions between 800x600 to 2048x1536.
- We recommend that this site is viewed with at the 16-bit (High Colour) setting and above.
